Other Characters: N/A

Character Name: Zacharie

Series: OFF

Timeline: Just as he informs the player and the Batter that they're at the final save point in the game.

Canon Resource Link: Zacharie

Character Background: It's more like a lack of background when it comes to Zacharie. A book found in Zone 2's library called The Toad King hints at what might be his past:

A long time ago lived an evil king. His face was so repulsive that he was nicknamed the Toad King. One day a masked man met the king during an audience. He said the following words to him:

"Greetings wrenched monarch, leave this land at once or parish at the tip of my blade."

The King replied: "I am the king and you are my subjects. You are not to go against my will."

And so the masked man slew the King with his mighty sword.

The end.

But the book does not inform us if this story is actually Zacharie's or if he's the masked man or the Toad King. One could assume he's the masked man (his own masks and his concept art has him using a sword) but at the same time he could have been the Toad King (Mortis Ghost sort of drew his face once and it doesn't look pretty). But regardless no more light is shed on him from that source.

In Zone 2, once you find the theme park, there are a number of hints that Zacharie created and owns the park itself (there's a statue of him on top of the roller coaster and getting a picture of it with the Batter leads one of the Elsens to comment about you having a picture with the "boss"). Why exactly he built the park, if he did, is once again unknown.

Recurring theme, isn't it?

But when OFF starts his role is a bit more clearer. He's the items merchant that every video game needs. Once you meet him in the smoke mines in Zone 1, he follows the Batter around and sells you stuff at certain points in the game (like before a boss fight, for example). After a series of events happen that take the life of the Judge's brother, Zacharie takes over for him and dons a cat-like mask and offers cryptic advice to the Batter in the same way that the Judge did as well as continue his role as the items merchant (he switches masks in-between).

If the player chooses to go back to Zone 0 at any point, they will run across the bonus boss Sugar. Upon defeating her, she requests you tell Zacharie "Good-by for her". When you inform him of this, you're treated to the only moment that Zacharie is silent before he says "It's better like that." What exactly the nature of their relationship was is left unknown but it's clear he's saddened by her death.

Finally when the Batter reaches the Room Zacharie is present before the final battle, explaining that they stand before the final save point and offers the Batter some cryptic words: "He who conquers himself, conquers twice."

Regardless of what ending the player picks, it's never said what happens to Zacharie.

Abilities/Special Powers: List all the special types of non-normal things your character do. IE: The different powers of the Nobodies from KH, or Hiro Nakamura's ability to teleport and go into time.

Third-Person Sample: Minimum of three paragraphs, introspective piece. We’re judging your grasp on the character and how you log with them;. We would prefer if this was not a simple re-telling of canon events, this way we can see how you handle the character's actions.

First-Person Sample: [there's a man in a mask staring at the camera. it's hard to tell if he's smiling or not but he sounds particularly amused when he speaks.]

Ah ah ah, buenos días!
